THE REASON TO GO
Genzano’s Infiorata covers Via Italo Belardi with intricate pictures made from flowers for Corpus Domini. Choose the announced display weekend, with time to see the preparation as well as the finished carpet. Stay in Genzano for the easiest festival access, or choose a Castelli Romani base and arrange transfers before committing.
Genzano is the easiest base; nearby hill towns require a transfer plan.
The public display weekend must be confirmed separately from Corpus Domini.

THE MAIN OCCASION
Scenes from past editions: the scale, colour and atmosphere that make the journey worthwhile.
THE STORY BEHIND THE SPECTACLE
Since 1778
The Infiorata grew from Genzano families scattering flowers before their homes to honour the Corpus Domini procession in 1778. This devotional gesture developed into an elaborate street carpet, with pictures composed from petals and other plant materials. Via Livia, now Via Italo Belardi, became the setting. Its sloping perspective is part of the experience: visitors see individual scenes close up and a continuous work stretching uphill.
The contemporary festival combines religious purpose with specialised local craftsmanship. Artists design the panels and teams prepare colours and materials before assembling the temporary pictures on the street. The result is meant to last only briefly, rather than enter a gallery. Genzano’s municipality describes the event as a tradition recognised nationally in 2011; the annual programme determines when visitors can watch preparation, admire the carpet and see the procession.
OUTSIDE THE MAIN EVENT
Visit the palace and romantic park overlooking Lake Nemi when scheduled openings allow. Reserve any guided entry required.
Plan the visitExplore Genzano’s historic streets and buy its distinctive local bread from a bakery. This makes an easy, unscheduled break between festival visits.
Plan the visitVisit the museum on the lakeshore to learn about the imperial vessels recovered from Lake Nemi and the area’s archaeology. Arrange a separate car or taxi stop: it is below the hill town, not beside the flower route.
Plan the visitA LITTLE STRUCTURE. PLENTY OF ROOM TO WANDER.
Arrange the festival day around the confirmed programme, then shift the surrounding days to suit your arrival.
Settle into your Rome hotel or a local Genzano base. If based in Rome, confirm tomorrow’s private transfer, festival drop-off point and return pickup; keep this first evening easy.
Keep the principal display day free for Via Italo Belardi. Go early for a calmer look at the pictures, then return if the programme offers a procession or evening viewing. Keep clear of the petals and working areas.
From a local base, visit Palazzo Sforza-Cesarini if open and continue to Nemi with booked transport. From Rome, choose a separate Castelli Romani outing only if you want another travel day; otherwise keep the day for Rome.
Leave after breakfast with a generous airport margin. Any removal ritual or final-day activity depends on that year’s programme; shift this plan if it is a priority.
JUST BEYOND THE FESTIVAL
Choose one outing for a short stay. Add another night if you want to explore further at an easy pace.

No Genzano hotel was assigned stars without explicit current primary-source evidence. Villa Robinia’s official site confirmed its Genzano location but did not state a classification in accessible text; the park directory shows two stars while commercial listings show three, so it was excluded from the three-star pair.
All four verified choices are in the Castelli Romani outside Genzano. Villa Aricia and Castel Vecchio are more local festival bases than Rome, but every option still needs an agreed road-transfer plan.
Castel Vecchio’s rating is supported by a currently accessible official Regione Lazio tourism listing originating in a regional promotion; confirm the classification directly when booking.
